An important message to RANZCOG trainees during COVID-19 from RANZCOG.
Training is stressful at the best of times. Scheduling study, exam preparation, attending courses and study leave are usually timetabled in advance. The expectations of the training program, and the pressure that trainees and SIMGs put on themselves, is significant. The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented event and it’s important to emphasise that its impact on your training is not within your control.
In the current climate, trainees and SIMGs will, quite justifiably, be concerned that their progress through training, assessments and exams, teaching and clinical experience, and time in training, will be adversely affected.
Trainees are reassured that the College is putting in place mechanisms and arrangements to ensure the impact of COVID-19 to training and requirments will be minimised wherever possible.

The health, safety and wellbeing of our trainees, SIMGs, supervisors, examiners and staff are paramount. The RANZCOG committees, staff, CEO and Board have worked consistently to consider all opportunities to minimise any further disadvantage to trainees and SIMGs. The decisions have not been made lightly. We have considered the impact that COVID-19 may have on the medical workforce in Australia and New Zealand, the impact on career development and progression, and the physical and emotional welfare of all of our trainees and SIMGs. The decisions have been made in consultation with senior staff, the College Council, and Fellows, and we have also consulted directly with the Chairs of the Trainees' Committee.
