World Health Day

07 April 2020

On World Health Day, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) would like to acknowledge and thank our colleagues in midwifery and nursing. It is perhaps prescient to note that the origins of modern nursing arose during the Crimean War when Florence Nightingale demonstrated the value of military nurses. As we face a new and unpredictable foe with the Covid-19 pandemic, once again nurses and midwives will be the leaders and tireless workers, providing clinical care for our community.
Thank you for your kindness and compassion, for your selfless dedication and for your consummate professionalism. The whole system of health rests on the foundation of nursing and midwifery care and, for that, we are genuinely grateful.
