RANZCOG statement on Mackay Base Hospital
Following rigorous reassessment by RANZCOG’s accreditation team, the suspension of Mackay Base Hospital as an accredited training site has been lifted, meaning the site is now available to Fellowship trainees. That is, the site can now train specialist obstetricians and gynaecologists. Close monitoring of the site will continue, with a follow-up accreditation visit planned in the second half of 2024.
More generally, the College monitors training sites via progress reports, visits and surveys to ensure obstetrics and gynaecology training standards are maintained in the interests of the communities they serve, and that the hospitals and other environments where our trainees work are safe and supportive.
