OGET sessions led by the Broome Hub bring together healthcare professionals from across the Kimberley region for focused learning and collaboration in women’s health.

In 2025 the Broome Hub conducted training sessions in Broome, Derby, Karratha, Kununurra, One Arm Point and Port Hedland. Watch this video on the OGET experience in Broome.

The Broome hub welcomed RANZCOG to a site visit to engage with their successful Obstetrics and Gynaecology Education and Training (OGET) series. Led by an experienced educator, the October interactive case-based session explored contemporary obstetric and gynaecological care for women with rheumatic heart disease. The session had an emphasis on practical decision-making and multidisciplinary management in regional settings.

The Broome workshop was attended by a range of roles in local health services including Midwives, GPOs, O&Gs, a paediatrician, anaesthetist, an Aboriginal Liaison Support Officer, trainees and other clinicians.

The workshop was well received, participants provided feedback valuing the opportunity to learn from specialists, share experiences, and strengthen professional networks. Events such as these continue to support the regional health workforce and contribute to improved outcomes for women and families across the Kimberley.

The session also provided valuable discussions around culturally safe care and the unique challenges of managing complex medical conditions in pregnancy, particularly in the Kimberley region where rheumatic heart disease remains a significant health issue.

ABC Kimberley attended the session and later reported on rheumatic heart disease in the community and how education led solutions can support the community.
