Medical Council of New Zealand Statements

12 May 2017

The Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) publish a number of Statements that outline the standards expected of doctors practising in New Zealand, with the aim to assist doctors in providing good medical practice.  These documents may be used by the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal, the MCNZ and the Health and Disability Commissioner as a standard by which doctors can be measured.

Some Statements have recently been revised following extensive consultation and consideration of international evidence and regulatory trends. These include the following Statements:

  • Good Medical Practice
  • Statement on providing care to yourself and those close to you
  • Statement on advertising
  • Statement on the use of the internet and electronic communication
Practitioners have an ongoing obligation to ensure that they are practising within the up-to-date standards. Visit the MCNZ website for further information in relation to recent changes or to review the current the current Statements.
