Gendered Language Project
RANZCOG is on a continuous journey towards gender inclusive care for everybody.
We acknowledge gender-inclusive language is always part of an ongoing conversation, recognising that it is an ongoing challenge to apply language in a way that is clear, concise and preserves the dignity of all people being referenced.
As part of our journey towards gender-inclusive care, RANZCOG conducted an extensive literature review both domestically and internationally in gender-inclusive language. It was identified that healthcare professionals worldwide care for patients of all genders, and there is a demand to address the gaps in appropriate treatment and care for gender-diverse people.
To learn more about your perspective and experiences, the College will soon consult with our members and trainees, staff, the LGBTIQA+ community, key external organisations, and consumers on what is important when it comes to giving and receiving gender-inclusive care.
RANZCOG’s vision is Excellence and equity in Women’s Health. We also recognise that our workforce treats and cares for people of all gender identities, including cisgender, transgender, gender non-binary, or otherwise gender expansive and all people should have access to respectful, appropriate, and safe health care.
Our journey has now become about expanding upon hard-fought accomplishments to be inclusive of the entirety of the population over the last five years; this is about inclusivity and respect and providing a welcoming space to all who access our College and specialist services. Respectful and inclusive language is vital for positive healthcare outcomes.
Acknowledging the need for gender-inclusive care, this consultation is an important step in this process, and we look forward to hearing from you.
