ACCC Report on the Private Health Insurance Industry

24 July 2017

The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) has released its 2015-16 Annual Report to the Australian Senate on the private health insurance industry. This report analyses key competition, consumer developments and trends in the private health insurance industry that impacted on consumer health cover and out-of-pocket expenses across the reporting period. A summary of key industry development trends can be found in the accompanying media release.
Many consumer issues identified by ACCC are under consideration by the Private Health Ministerial Advisory Committee, who advise the Federal Government on potential reforms to the industry. In addition, a Senate Inquiry commenced 1 June 2017 into the value and affordability of private health insurance and out-of-pocket medical costs. The Committee is due to report in November 2017.
