RANZCOG releases new Patient Information Pamphlets

17 November 2016

Media Statement

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) recently released its own suite of Patient Information Pamphlets. The new resource is aligned with the College’s Statements and Guidelines, and provides clinicians and women with accessible and up-to-date information about pregnancy and childbirth and gynaecology.

President and former chair of RANZCOG Women’s Health Committee, Professor Stephen Robson says the patient information pamphlets were designed with women in mind, to empower choice and enable informed decision making.

“Times have changed. People are increasingly turning to online sources for health advice. The challenge here is that the internet is a noisy place and it is becoming more and more difficult to identify trustworthy health information.”

The aim of the Pamphlets is to take the guess work out of making good health choices by providing information in simple language through accessible channels.

“Women are more often than not the carers of their children, their partners and often times the wider family network. We know that time, access and accurate information are the three biggest challenges women face when seeking health advice. We hope that this resource will help to alleviate these barriers.”

The Patient Information Pamphlets can be accessed online via the College website. There are 21 topics available with an additional 24 to be added to the set. It is anticipated that the pamphlets will be translated into different languages in the near future.
