Since 2011, the Government has provided RANZCOG with Specialist Training Program (STP) funding to provide support to enable trainees to rotate through an expanded range of settings, beyond traditional public teaching hospitals, as recognised FRANZCOG training.

RANZCOG also welcomes the announcement that the Australian Indigenous Doctors’ Association (AIDA) and specialist medical colleges will continue to collaborate on recruiting and retaining more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander specialist trainees.

Background

RANZCOG is one of 13 specialist medical colleges funded by the Department of Health to administer the STP program.

The STP seeks to extend vocational training for specialist registrars into settings outside traditional metropolitan teaching hospitals, including regional, rural and remote and private facilities. The program aims to improve the quality of the future specialist workforce by providing registrars with exposure to a broader range of healthcare settings. STP also aims to have a positive influence on future workforce distribution
