Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women's Health Meeting

Working towards a healthier future

One of the ways RANZCOG contributes to strongly supporting improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women is through hosting the national triennial Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women's Health Meeting. These meetings bring together health professionals with the common interest and desire to improve the health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. The inaugural meeting was held in Darwin in 2008 with 350 attendees; subsequent meetings were held in Cairns in 2011 and Adelaide in 2014 and 2018.

Delegates and speakers from diverse backgrounds from across the country attend the meetings, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers, nurses, midwives, general practitioners, specialists and health administration personnel from government and community sectors. Each meeting provides a forum for health professionals working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to share their experiences and to establish and consolidate networks.
