About the SSTS Project

A consortium of medical colleges—RANZCO, RANZCR, RANZCOG, RACS, RACMA, and CICM—has been funded by the Department of Health and Aged Care (DoHAC) to develop and deliver a one innovative, rural focused, Standardised Supervisor Training System (SSTS) aligned to the AMC accreditation standards for postgraduate medical training and across the Medical Colleges in the consortium.

A National Supervisor’s Curriculum (NSC) and a Supervisor and Trainee Framework (STF) will be developed which will enhance the skills of existing supervisors and improve College systems to support them. The key objectives are to:

  • Establish core capabilities for supervisors across specialties.
  • Improve consistency in medical supervision.
  • Build capacity for culturally safe, effective supervision.
  • Strengthen supervision in rural and remote areas.

SSTS Project – 2025 Pilot

The SSTS pilot program is currently running from April to July 2025. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a cross-College initiative aimed at enhancing supervision in postgraduate medical education.

Learning snippets will be released in stages during the pilot to ensure a manageable workload, and Supervisors will complete them before providing structured feedback through a survey.

Why Join the pilot?

The SSTS pilot is a crucial step in refining the Medical Supervisor Curriculum and associated learning resources. Your feedback will directly shape the final program.

What’s involved?

  • Complete short, scenario-based learning “snippets” (10–15 minutes each)
  • Learning is self-paced, online, and released in manageable stages
  • Provide structured feedback via a survey
  • Total estimated time: 210 minutes over the pilot period

What are Learning snippets?

Metropolitan, rural and remote focused scenario-based learning snippets, which take between 10 to 15 minutes to complete, have been developed to support Supervisors to develop the capabilities that will be piloted from April to July 2025. The snippets will be available online and can be done individually, at any time. The entire set of learning snippets will take about 210 minutes to complete.
