Subspecialty training programs

RANZCOG offers subspecialty training in five highly specialised areas of obstetrics and gynaecology. Explore this page to learn more about the selection process.

Introduction

To achieve certification as a subspecialist, you must complete a subspecialty training program that includes:

three years of full-time training in a prospectively approved subspecialty training position

formative and summative assessments, examinations and specific assessment requirements outlined in the relevant subspecialty curriculum

a prospectively approved scholarly elective pertaining to the relevant subspecialty (unless otherwise exempt)

Subspecialty selection

Subspecialty selection is a competitive process that determines your eligibility to commence Subspecialty training. Please ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria before applying. More information can be found in the sections below.


Gynaecological Oncology (CGO)

The Certification in Gynaecological Oncology (CGO) is intended for specialists who are already competent in the comprehensive management of gynaecological cancers.

Following successful completion of subspecialty training, you will be qualified to practice as a consultant, delivering the highest standards of care in all areas of gynaecological oncology, including surgery, radiotherapy and pathology.

Maternal Fetal Medicine (CMFM)

The Certification in Maternal Fetal Medicine (CMFM) is intended for specialists who are already competent in obstetrical, medical and surgical complications of pregnancy, and the effects of these complications on the mother and fetus.

Following successful completion of subspecialty training, you will be qualified to practice as a consultant, ensuring a continuum of excellence in care from the fetal to newborn stages.

Obstetrical and Gynaecological Ultrasound (COGU)

The Certification Obstetrical and Gynaecological Ultrasound (COGU) is intended for specialists who are already competent in ultrasound diagnosis, including ultrasound-guided interventional diagnostic and therapeutic techniques.

Following successful completion of subspecialty training, you will be qualified to practice as a consultant, providing comprehensive diagnostic service to general and subspecialist obstetrics and gynaecology.

Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI)

The Certification in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI) is intended for specialists who are already competent in the comprehensive management of patients with reproductive endocrine disorders and infertility.

Following successful completion of subspecialty training, you will be qualified to treat infertile couples, and also to practice as a director of an assisted conception unit.

Urogynaecology (CU)

The Certification in Urogynaecology (CU) is intended for specialists who are already competent in the comprehensive management of patients with urogynaecological disorders.

Following successful completion of subspecialty training, you will be qualified to practice as a consultant, providing assessment and clinical management of lower urinary tract disorders, including pelvic floor dysfunction, genital tract prolapse and intractable incontinence.
