Format

Trainees undertaking the Certificate of Women’s Health must complete a multiple-choice examination to assess knowledge and understanding of the curriculum. This is a computer-based examination delivered at examination centres.

Format

Trainees who have already passed the Certificate of Women’s Health written examination must complete the Diploma of RANZCOG written examination (also known as the Certificate of Women’s Health upgrade examination).

If you’re undertaking the Diploma in combination with the Certificate, you must complete a longer version of the written examination.

Both versions are delivered in a computer-based, multiple-choice format to assess knowledge and understanding of the curriculum

Format

Trainees undertaking the Advanced Diploma of RANZCOG must complete a highly structured oral examination designed to assess clinical competence.

Until further notice, the oral examination is being held online. Trainees and examiners will dial-in from home or another suitable location, while the simulated patient actors will dial-in from the Adelaide Health Simulation Centre.

– 2 minutes for reading
– 12 minutes for examination
– 20 marks

Total: 160 marks
1 hour 52 minutes

At each station you will:

encounter an examiner or actor playing the role of a patient

address at least one clinical scenario

use non-technical language to explain the clinical scenario (and results), avoiding the use of jargon and acronyms

If you wish to sit the Advanced Diploma oral examination and Diploma written examination in the same semester, you must apply for both examinations by the stipulated closing dates.

Additional information

Critical examination topics

The oral examination may assess your clinical competence in one or more of the following areas:

Management of antepartum haemorrhage

Instrumental deliveries

Management of eclamptic patient

Resuscitation of neonate

Management of postpartum haemorrhage

Management of pre-eclampsia

Management of shoulder dystocia

These are considered to be critical topics in the Advanced Diploma curriculum.

Examination scoring

At each station, you will be assessed according to a global (holistic) scoring method, against a combination of the following domains:

History and examination

Investigations and interpreting results

Treatment/management

Clinical knowledge

Complex, urgent or unusual clinical presentations

Rapport with patient, support person and/or colleague

Respect of patient, support person and/or colleague

Communication skills

Prioritisation criteria

If there are more applications than places available for the oral examination, the College will take into account any special considerations and exceptional circumstances.

Online application process

Please follow the steps below to apply online.

Submit your application form (expression of interest) to sit the examination — please see the relevant Dates and Registration section above

Once you have submitted your application form, you will receive an email communication from the College confirming your eligibility to sit the examination (within four weeks after applications have closed)

Upon receiving the eligibility outcome, pay the examination fees within seven days to finalise your examination application

If you have a sponsor for the examination

If you wish to withdraw from an examination after submitting your application

Before submitting your application, please refer to the RANZCOG Regulations (see sections F1.7, F2.7 and F3.7 on the Certificate and Diploma Examinations) for more information on topics such as eligibility, availability of places and withdrawals.


Results

Trainees will find out the release date for results at a pre-examination seminar.

On this date, you will be able to access your results by logging into Integrate with your five-digit RANZCOG ID number and your password.

The College recommends accessing your Integrate account well before the release date to confirm your login details. To reset your password, please click the ‘Forgotten password’ link.

Please note that the College has a number of checks in place to ensure that all examination results are correct prior to release. As such, the College does not remark examinations unless a procedural error has been identified.
