Trainees undertaking the APTP must complete a highly structured oral examination designed to assess clinical competence.
This examination will be held in a face-to-face format from a venue in Melbourne.
Format | Assessment | Time |
---|---|---|
Oral examination (APTP only) | Eight stations, each involving: – 4 minutes for reading – 12 minutes for examination – 20 marks Total: 160 marks | Approx. 2 hours 8 minutes |
At each station you will:
Encounter an examiner or actor playing the role of a patient/colleague
Address at least one clinical scenario
Use non-technical language to explain the clinical scenario (and results), avoiding the use of jargon and acronyms
If you wish to sit the APTP oral examination and the PTP written examination in the same semester, you must apply for both examinations by the stipulated closing dates.
Please see the above section on the PTP for more information on the written examination.
The decision to extend the reading time for the examination from 2 to 4 minutes is informed by the feedback received from candidates and examiners during the August 2023 examination. Importantly, this adjustment will not affect the quantity or complexity of the reading content for each question, and it is not intended to increase the difficulty or complexity of the stations.
Fees
Please note that examination fees are not subject to GST.
