Fellow in Urogynaecology + Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery

One of two fellowship positions are available in 2020 in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery + Urogynaecology at St Vincent’s Public + Private Campus Sydney.
 
This 12-month position will give significant surgical exposure including management of:
1. Severe endometriosis + pelvic pain
2. Major prolapse, incontinence + reconstructive surgeries
3. Advanced laparoscopic + hysteroscopic surgery
4. Sub-specialist urogynaecology assessment and surgery
5. Management of infertility
 
Inanimate laparoscopic training, teaching of medical students and JMO education as well as involvement in research and journal publications are key aspects to these two fellow positions for 2020.

We currently have a full time 12 month position available as an Obstetrics & Gynaecology Senior Registrar at Nepean Hospital, Sydney, part of Nepean and Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD), commencing from Monday 3rd February 2020 to 31st January 2021.  

 

The vacancy is to act as the Senior Provisional Fellow in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Nepean Hospital to provide effective medical services to Obstetric and Gynaecological patients under supervision, while developing expertise in Obstetric and Gynaecological practice, in a complex clinical environment in inpatients and outpatient areas in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District or associated institutions. Senior Registrar's participate in weekend rostered duties and on-call duties

 

This will include both clinical and administrative roles and will take in the overseeing of rostering, relief cover and appropriate teaching of trainees and other junior staff.

 

Liaison with consultant and midwifery staff to best utilize available junior medical staff resources and ensure safe and effective care of patients.

 

Provide an opportunity to develop and enhance the candidate's own expertise as preparation for specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology practice. As a Senior Registrar you will have the opportunity to complete your specialty training or embark upon subspecialty training or advanced (higher degree) research within our LHD in the future years. We pride ourselves on being able to develop each SR position to suit the individual needs of each successful appointee, with the added flexibility of changing the clinical experiences of the post as the year progresses and your requirements change. Working with supportive staff specialists, provides you with the opportunity for structured feedback and career guidance as well as enabling supervised enhancement of teaching and mentoring skills. The position can include advanced laparoscopic surgery, OG ultrasound, colposcopy and general gynaecology.

 

The position may be required to work within other facilities which are in an approved arrangement with your employer, including rural locations. These facilities may include other NSW public and private hospitals, and facilities in other States.

 

Specifically you may be required to assist with limited surgical duties at other hospitals in the LHD including Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital, Springwood Hospital and Hawkesbury Hospitals.

 

Nepean Hospital is a major referral and teaching hospital of the University of Sydney and is recognised as comprising one of the largest and busiest maternity care facilities in Western Sydney. The tertiary level public hospital provides care for approximately 4000 births per year, including high risk antenatal care, and services the state’s highest population of high- risk groups such as aboriginal and Pacific Islander women.

 

Selection Criteria:

 
  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in the last 2 years in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
  3. Have attained the fellowship or be in the final years of accredited RANZCOG training or been certified as substantially equivalent to this level by RANZCOG.
  4. Passed MRANZCOG exam or equivalent.
  5. Demonstrates ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
  6. Demonstrates teamwork, time management and problem solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  7. Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills.
  8. Demonstrated good organisational, time management skills and commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.

The Tasmanian Health Service – North West Region encompasses two hospitals, the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) in Burnie and the Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) in Latrobe. The NWRH contracts inpatient services in public maternity care to the North West Private Hospital, located on the same grounds as the NWRH, this service includes a level 4 neonatal nursery. The NWRH and MCH provides a range of gynaecological services. The North West Regional Hospital has accreditation for two Integrated Training Program placements for Registrar Year Three and above. Our trainees are actively involved in ward rounds and patient assessment and management and find they are well prepared for further registrar training opportunities.

Shepparton Women’s Health Centre is a one-stop centre of excellence to manage all women’s health issues. It offers a range of expert health practitioners and services to deliver both curative as well as preventative health care.

 

Currently, there are 3 obstetricians / gynaecologists, visiting specialists such as a uro-gynaecologist and laparoscopic specialist, a physiotherapist specialising in women’s health, general practitioners, practice nurses, a psychologist and a general surgeon.

 

The gynaecological practice has a wide-ranging referral base and involves a comprehensive selection of every possible gynaecological clinical presentation, as well as extensive operating, both private and public.

 

The trainee will have their own fully equipped room for independent consulting, with access to supervision/consultation. There will be ample opportunity for office gynaecological procedures, including IUD insertions, colposcopies, vulvoscopies, and ultrasound examinations, with or without supervision depending on the level of expertise.   It is an excellent position for 5th or 6th year trainees wishing to expand their gynaecological experience and operating skills. Independence will be encouraged, without sacrificing support.

 

Operating takes place 1-2 days per week at Kyabram District Health Services and 0.5-1 day per week at Shepparton Private Hospital.

 

Procedures performed in both hospitals include a wide range of gynaecological procedures, such as hysterectomies laparoscopic/vaginal/abdominal, advanced laparoscopic surgery (adnex surgery and treatment of extensive endometriosis), prolapse surgery, hysteroscopies, endometrial ablation, incontinence procedures, sterilisations, LLETZ procedures, and cone biopsies.

A recent successful reaccreditation visit in June 2019  has resulted in Goulburn Valley Health Shepparton Victoria being awarded accreditation for an ITP trainee in 2020. We are also one trainee short at present until February 2020.

This is a rural attachment as part of your training  but non accredited registrars may also apply .
 

We have a memorandum of understanding with  Royal Women's Hospital and have adopted  Royal Women's Hospital guidelines for clinical practice.

 

We do offer extensive gynaecological experience for trainees as well as a busy high risk obstetric unit. Rural and regional health offers many additional challenges that test the competencies and resilience of us all .
 

We have  made significant additions to our  O and G consultant staffing recently ,improved our education program and feel that a trainee would greatly benefit from an appointment in our unit.
