A revised version of the Accreditation Standards and Guidelines for Hospitals in the FRANZCOG Training Program has been approved and will come into effect from 1 February 2024.

This includes splitting into two separate documents: the Accreditation Process and Guidelines for Training Sites in the FRANZCOG Training Program AND the Accreditation Standards and Criteria for Training Sites in the FRANZCOG Training Program.

Significant changes to standards/criteria include:

  • Splitting the content into a ‘Process and Guidelines’ document (page 1-19 of version 1.9) and a ‘Standards and Criteria’ document (page 20 onwards of version 1.9).
  • Use of ‘Training Site’ in place of hospital throughout.
  • Clarification throughout the Process and Guidelines for Training Sites in the FRANZCOG Training Program document to make the accreditation process clear.
  • Addition of cluster and satellite arrangements to capture different training arrangements (separate to a recognised ITP).
  • Updated Curriculum section to reflect RANZCOG Roles and Advanced Training Pathways.
  • Standard 2 “Appointment and Support for Training Supervisors” addition of new criterion 2.3.2 to address CPD mandatory requirements for DBSH and Cultural Safety.
  • Standard 3 “Consultant involvement with and support for FRANZCOG trainees” updates to 3.2.6 ‘Roles of the Consultant’ to capture Mini-CEX and Multi-Source Feedback completion.
  • Standard 6 “Workplace culture, registrar staffing, safe working hours, leave arrangements and assistance for rural rotations” significant updates to 6.1.3 ‘Bullying, harassment and discrimination’ to capture communication and awareness of policies (both internal and external) and link to relevant publications for reference.
  • Standard 6 “Workplace culture, registrar staffing, safe working hours, leave arrangements and assistance for rural rotations” addition of criterion 6.8.1 ‘Employment contracts’ to ensure familiarity of the training site with relevant training program requirements, particularly with regards to restricting trainee movements via employment contracts.
  • Other minor amendments throughout.

Further details of changes to the Standards can be found in the version control register at the beginning of either the Process and Guidelines or Standards and Criteria document.

Accreditation activities undertaken up until 31 January 2023 will continue to use the current version (v1.9) of the Standards and Guidelines.

Thereafter, all hospitals accredited to deliver FRANZCOG training will be assessed using the revised version, for both progress reporting and accreditation visits.

Information on the role of hospitals in the FRANZCOG training program, and the current Standards and Guidelines, can be found here.

The revised Standards and Criteria/Process and Guidelines documents can be accessed here.

A summary of the additions and amendments made in the revised version is available here.

The following guidelines support the Accreditation Standards and Criteria and should be referenced by training sites:
