RANZCOG congratulates Nobel Peace Prize winners

06 October 2018

RANZCOG congratulates the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize awardees Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad who were jointly recognised for their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict. RANZCOG President Dr Steve Robson said, 'this is an outstanding choice that acknowledges women and those who risk everything to protect them'.

The award citation calls attention to Denis Mukwege as the 'most unifying symbol, both nationally and internationally, of the struggle to end sexual violence in war and armed conflicts' and says the 'importance of Dr Mukwege’s enduring, dedicated and selfless efforts in this field cannot be overstated'.

Nadia Murad, the UN’s first Goodwill Ambassador for the Dignity of Survivors of Human Trafficking, was recognised for 'uncommon courage in recounting her own sufferings and speaking up on behalf of other victims'.
