Gender Equity and Diversity in the spotlight

07 March 2021

RANZCOG’s Gender Equity and Diversity Working Group (GEDWG) met last week to discuss, among other things, a Gender Equity and Diversity Policy.
The development of the policy was a key recommendation to come out of the College’s landmark Gender Equity and Diversity Report.
The policy will go to the RANZCOG Board in April for approval.
Chair of RANZCOG’s Gender Equity and Diversity Working Group, Dr Gill Gibson, says, “RANZCOG is committed and has a very clear path ahead to achieving diversity, equity and inclusion, and this policy will guide and support those efforts.”
Other work being undertaken by the GEDWG is the development of education tools and resources on implicit bias and on leadership skills, which will then be made available to the membership.
Dr Gibson encourages all eligible members to get involved in College governance; specifically, to stand at the upcoming elections. RANZCOG has adopted the targets of 40% female, 40% male and 20% flexible for the 2021 College Council and Board elections.
“Research consistently demonstrates the positive relationship between a more diverse leadership and improved performance and better outcomes,” Dr Gibson says. “RANZCOG comprises a diverse range of members; this is an opportunity to have that broader representation and engagement from our membership.”
