Taking it to the edge

04 July 2019

More than 150 delegates attended the recent RANZCOG SA/NT Symposium, enjoying an engaging and diverse scientific program during the day, and then honouring 35 Year Fellows at a gala dinner.

With a theme of The Cutting Edge of O&G, delegates heard about the latest research and viewpoints across a wide range of topics including endometriosis, prenatal genetics, major surgical challenges affecting modern obstetrics, transvaginal mesh, informed consent, and labioplasty for young women.

Symposium Convenor FRANZCOG Dr Michael McEvoy said: “We involved a lot of the junior Fellows and senior trainees in presenting, and we tried to be as inclusive as we could knowing that is where the future of the College is.

“South Australia is a fairly research-based environment and so a lot of new work is coming out, so it is great event to showcase that work.”

Dr McEvoy thanked all the speakers, especially those from interstate, and the support received from the sponsors of the event.

Dr McEvoy encouraged all members and trainees to attend events like regional scientific meetings. “It encourages people to present in a less formal environment, so it creates a great atmosphere for discussion,” he said.

The prestigious John O’Loughlin Medal was presented to FRANZCOG Advanced Trainee Dr Ellen Raghoudi for her talk on transvaginal mesh-related concerns in South Australia.

RANZCOG President Dr Vijay Roach, who attended the Symposium and provided an update on the work of the College, said: “The SA/NT Regional Committee and the organising team of Dr McEvoy, Dr Amita Singla, Dr Raghoudi and Tania Back should be congratulated. The Symposium provided both excellent scientific content and a wonderful opportunity to experience South Australian hospitality and camaraderie.”
