RANZCOG launches ‘Innovate’ Reconciliation Action Plan at their Annual Scientific Meeting

15 September 2018

The College formally committed to improving the health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in its Strategic Plan in 2010–2012. Since then, it has been involved in various activities, including drafting the ‘Reflect’ Reconciliation Plan 2014–2015, hosting two Aboriginal and Torres Islander Women’s Health Meetings and making Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women’s health one of the key streams of the National Women’s Health Summit.
The RANZCOG Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan strengthens the College’s aim of translating its good intentions into actions by setting measurable goals, timelines and responsibilities and by building a framework to enable the College to achieve its goals. The document has been developed with input from the College’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Committee, which includes two Aboriginal Fellows, two Aboriginal trainees, College Councillors, Board members, the Executive Leadership team and various College staff members. It focuses on four key areas:
  • Building relationships through communication and advocacy
  • Nurturing respect through education programs for its Fellows, Trainees, and staff members
  • Enhancing employment and business opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
  • Ensuring accountability by tracking progress and reporting
