Each year RANZCOG acknowledges the important role the media play in informing decision makers and the public about women’s health through the awarding of the RANZCOG Media Award of Excellence.

New recommendations for prenatal screening and diagnostic testing for fetal chromosomal and genetic conditions

The new recommendation supports women with a low probability of common monogenic conditions being offered information on carrier screening. That includes discussion of the potential benefits of screening, the limitations, and importantly the associated costs.

Clinicians should provide information about carrier screening for cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy, and Fragile X syndrome to women planning pregnancy, and in the first trimester if they’re already pregnant.
